Locally's built-in MCP server lets Claude Code interact with the resources running in Locally. This guide covers installing, configuring and uninstalling it. You can also install the Locally Agent Skills, which teach Claude Code how to work with Locally.
If you're looking for the Claude desktop app, see Using Locally with Claude Desktop.
Locally can register the MCP server with Claude Code for you:
$
locally mcp install claude-code
This uses the claude CLI, so it needs to be on your PATH. The server is registered for your user, so it's available in every Claude Code session on this machine.
Use the --force flag to overwrite an existing entry, which is useful in scripts or when updating an existing entry:
$
locally mcp install claude-code --force
To check the registration status across all supported clients on your machine:
$
locally mcp list
If you'd rather register the MCP server yourself, the equivalent claude CLI command is:
$
claude mcp add --scope user locally locally mcp
The first locally is the entry name Claude Code will register, and the remaining arguments (locally mcp) are the command Claude Code will run to launch the MCP server. Replace the second locally with the absolute path to the binary if it isn't on your $PATH.
User-scope entries are stored in ~/.claude.json.
The MCP Server page lists the tools Claude Code can use, from deploying templates to managing Key Vault Secrets. If you run more than one agent, Subscriptions, Tenants & Credentials shows how to give each one its own Subscription.
