Locally Agent Skills

The Locally Agent Skills teach your agent how to work with Locally, so you can ask for what you want in plain language - such as "make this Terraform work against both Locally and Azure".

They work with Claude Code and any other agent that supports Agent Skills, and are open source in the locallybuild/skills repository.

Install

Install all of the skills:

$ npx skills add locallybuild/skills

Or install just one, using its name from the table below:

$ npx skills add locallybuild/skills --skill locally-run

Available Skills

SkillWhat it covers
locally-setupGetting a machine ready to run Locally: certificates, DNS for *.locally, the container runtime, signing in, and what each plan includes.
locally-lifecycleStarting, stopping, restarting and checking on Locally.
locally-runRunning the Azure CLI, Terraform, OpenTofu, Pulumi, PowerShell and the Azure SDKs against Locally, working with the data planes, and deploying runbooks.
locally-identityThe example directory, users and groups, service principals, tokens and Microsoft Graph permissions.
locally-debugChecking whether a resource type or API version is supported, working out why something behaves differently from Azure, reading request and audit logs, and simulating failures with chaos.
locally-ciRunning Locally in GitHub Actions with the locallybuild/setup-locally actions.
locally-mcpRegistering Locally's MCP server with your agent, and when to use its tools instead of the CLI.
locally-adaptChanging a Terraform, OpenTofu, Pulumi, ARM/Bicep, CLI or Azure SDK configuration so the same one works against both Locally and Azure.

Things to Try

With the skills installed, you can ask things like:

  • "Does Locally support Azure Cache for Redis?"
  • "Make this Terraform work against both Locally and Azure."
  • "Deploy this app to Locally, then show me how it behaves when the primary region is down."
  • "Set up a GitHub Actions workflow that runs our tests against Locally."

Setting up the MCP Server

To set up the MCP server as well, see the guide for your agent: Claude Code, Claude Desktop, OpenCode or VS Code Copilot. With the locally-mcp skill installed, you can also just ask your agent to do it.

Next steps

If you run more than one agent, Subscriptions, Tenants & Credentials shows how to give each one its own Subscription. To test how your app copes with failures, see Chaos Engineering, which the locally-debug skill can turn on for you.
